THE nineteenth annual hot dog show in Paphos with the popular event being more dog-focused and professional, organisers Paphiakos and CCP Animal Welfare have announced.
The show, which is being held on May 8th, raises money for the Paphos based charity which was founded in 1982. It provides many services including veterinary clinics in Paphos and Polis, a rescue line and a rehoming service. It also actively promotes animal welfare across Cyprus. The shelter provides a home to numerous animals.
The event will be held in front of the castle in Kato Paphos and will cover a smaller space this year, as it will take place under cover. It will be organised into sixteen separate categories.
“We listened to people’s comments last year, so the area will now be covered and is being provided by Shadeports Plus, who are one of our main sponsors,” Oana Simion-Bodnaras, Paphiakos’ advertising and media co-ordinator, told the Cyprus Mail:
She added that this year would be a more professional event, with three professional judges deciding each of the classes.
“We have added more categories to the pedigree classes. There are now eight, compared with only two last year. We wanted to give a chance to as many dogs as possible to enter.”
The event will once again be hosted by Cyprus based entertainer, Matthew Edmondson of Talk of the Town Events (TOTT), but unlike previous years there will be no other entertainers.
“We really want to make this a more professional show, but one which will also still be hugely enjoyable,” she said.
Refreshments and drinks will be available, as will plenty of water for the dogs.
Pre-registration is advised, although registration will also be available on the day. The fee is five euros for each class, and one euro for additional classes. Junior handling, where children take to the ring, is still included, as are the veteran and disabled dog categories.
The running order kicks off at 11.05 am and the categories include: any variety pedigree puppy, (four months old minimum and must have up to date vaccinations), Cyprus poodle, pedigree bull breeds, prettiest , pedigree hound, most handsome dog, pedigree working breeds, open class pedigree and non-pedigree, non-pedigree puppy, pedigree gundog, disabled class, veteran class and best in show.
Last year’s ‘Best in Show’ was a popular choice, seven month old, ‘Hugo’, a Great Dane.
